Is your company unionised?
We are aware of some of our employees belonging to a few different unions, but the number we believe is less than 5% of our total workforce.
Does your business face the threat of strike action, in light of the recent spates of strikes?
We believe we do not face the threat of strike action, we have an excellent two way relationship with our employees, and trust that we can achieve a lot through this relationship and dialogue.
Who are your competitors?
We would like to think we don’t have any competitors, there is no one else like us. However other companies that tender for work in our market include:
a. Diesel Power
b. Liveiro Civils
c. Wreckers Civils
d. Zero Earthworks
We believe that there have been instances where you have proceeded with work prior to the approval of the environmental plan.
We would only proceed with a project if there is a strict environmental policy in place. Should it be brought to our attention that the environmental policy is not in place we would stop the project.
What is the Environmental Policy of the organisation?
It is very important for us to look after the environment. We do not commence work on a project prior to an approved environmental plan being in place. We stay within the boundaries of this environmental plan.
Looking at the recently released crime statistics, is Protech Khuthele still willing to invest in the country?
- We are a Proudly South African Company, and have been for 20 years.
- There are risks involved in the industry but we manage these accordingly.
- We also have very loyal staff and we do our best to keep our staff safe and happy.
Are you currently involved in Africa and sub Sahara Africa?
We are not involved at this stage. Historically we have been involved in various countries in Africa but we felt that sufficient opportunities exist locally. However, should opportunities present themselves we will have a look at them.
Do you have a strategy in place to offset the lower levels expected after 2010?
If you look at the industry you can either be optimistic or pessimistic about infrastructure spending. Government has indicated that infrastructure spending will increase after 2010 – being optimistic we expect growth well after 2010.
Is Protech Khuthele benefiting from work relating to 2010?
Yes we are. We completed the demolitions to the old Orlando Stadium last year, and constructed the earthworks for the brand new Orlando Stadium, probably one of the most historical stadiums in the country. Very recently we completed the earthworks for the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
We are also about to commence with a R60m earthworks contract for Bombela Civils JV (Gautrain) for the construction of the earthworks formation for 5.5km of above ground railway line for the Gautrain between Modderfontein Road and Rhodesfield Station en route to OR Tambo Airport. This is one of the sections which have to be completed for 2010.
What is the percentage of public and private sector work you are currently involved in and do you expect it to change after the listing?
We are involved in both the public and private sectors. Currently we are involved predominantly in the private sector – there is no fixed ratio and it changes annually. The listing will not affect this ratio.
